Course Summary:

Service providers seek to understand what motivates clients to change and improve their health. Approaches that use evidence-based practices have been developed, tested, and known to work to motivate clients for positive health behavior change.  I Ola Lāhui organization utilizes integrated behavioral health approaches by applying culturally-minded practices to better deal with complex mental health and chronic diseases.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Use basic motivation strategies with diverse clients
  • Assist individuals in setting self management goals for health behavior change
  • Apply strategies for working with challenging individuals

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, I Ola Lāhui Behavioral Health Program

Speaker Bio:

Aukahi Austin Seabury, PhD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Executive Director of I Ola Lāhui, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides behavioral health services to Native Hawaiian and medically underserved populations. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Clinical Studies Program at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa. She completed a pre-doctoral internship at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with an emphasis in Community and Health Psychology and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa Department of Psychology in Child and Adolescent Evidence Based Practice.

Dr. Austin Seabury uses an integrated behavioral health approach with patients with complex mental health and chronic disease conditions and significant economic and social disadvantages. As the po‘o of Kūlana Hawai‘i, I Ola Lāhui’s weight management program, Dr. Austin Seabury works as a health psychologist supporting health behavior change with patients. She provides ongoing training to behavioral health providers on the use of culturally-minded evidence based practices.
