  • In Arizona, almost one third of the population is Latinx or Hispanic. Mental health and mental illness are often stigmatized topics for the Latinx/Hispanic communities, compounding the existing institutional and systemic barriers that already impede access to mental health services. This iteration of our Mental Health Mini-Talks will help identify factors that impact Latinx mental health and will address ways health professionals can support this population. This session will feature Denise Rodriguez, PhD, DBSM; Karina Duenas; Anna Carolina Ortiz, MPH; Francisco Moreno, MD.

  • This two-part pre-recorded racial equity training series focused on the substance use field includes: The Opioid Response Network: Developing a Shared Language For Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (66 minutes) Systemic Racism and Substance Use Disorder: Anti-Racist Strategies (72 minutes) The self-pace workshops include a recording, slide deck, PDF fillable workbook, and transcript. This two-part training series is approved for 2.0 American Academy of Family Physicians credits which expire on June 16, 2023. Completing each part is eligible for 1.0 credits.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a brief psychotherapeutic intervention to increase the likelihood of a patient considering, initiating, and maintaining specific change strategies to reduce harmful behavior. This course will help tobacco cessation coaches and specialists, nurses, medical, and behavioral health practitioners gain profound knowledge of patient consultation. The content of the course applies to e-cigarettes or vapes as well as conventional tobacco products.

  • This course aims to expand foundational knowledge for using non-pharmacological approaches when caring for infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and working with mothers with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in hospital settings. It covers three topics relevant to working with infants with NAS and mothers with OUD: NAS and its long-term effects; trauma-informed approaches to care; and Medication-assisted recovery for mothers with OUD.

  • It is estimated that over 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the United States; over 2.5 million of those immigrants live in California, Arizona, or Nevada. Because many are involved in essential work but do not qualify for most state or federal relief, undocumented immigrants have largely been left to fend for themselves while facing increased economic and health risks. This course will describe the health status of the undocumented population in the United States and discuss the need for Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) when planning and providing services. It will outline the Trauma-Informed Care model as a way to approach undocumented clients that are facing trauma.

We'll start with tips to get you started in your first weeks on the job, then present ways to develop your supervisory skills over time. You will learn ways to build trust with your team and gain ideas for what to discuss during one-on-one meetings with staff. This training also presents a six part tool that can be used to help employees think about their performance or for your own performance.   • Nutrition assessment is a useful and important tool to assess a person's food intake or to reveal patterns in food intake for a group or population. This training will review various nutrition assessment methods and present benefits and limitations for their use in different settings. This training will also present ways of using nutrition assessment in local programs.
