Course Summary:

Research from extraordinarily long-lived communities—Blue Zones—around the globe highlight the lifestyle, diet, outlook, and stress-coping practices that will add years to your life and life to your years. A long healthy life is no accident. It begins with good genes, but it also depends on good habits. If you adopt the right lifestyle, experts say, chances are you may live up to a decade longer with a good quality lifestyle.

Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Discuss the Blue Zones regions in the world and the findings of for their longevity.
  2. Summarize nine best practices that positively impact successful aging, active lifestyle and emotional wellbeing
  3. Share success stories from Blue Zones evidence-based research on diet, happiness, and active living.

Guest Speaker: Keolamalie McComber, Engagement Lead of Blue Zones Project Hawaii at Kapolei and Ewa

Speaker Bio:

Keolamalie McComber, is the Blue Zones’ Engagement Lead at Kapolei and Ewa.   Keolamalie McComber is originally from Nānākuli, Oʻahu and lived in the community of Kapolei for more than 15 years now.  She graduated from Kamehameha High School and from the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu with a BA degree in Humanities and dual concentration in Hawaiian-Pacific Studies. She served several different roles while at UH as the Kealaikahiki Program Coordinator, Academic Advisor, and Title III Grant Administrator. Her current role is helping others in achieving their personal, academic, and professional goals while they make the transition to leading a healthier lifestyle.
