About Us The Arizona Public Health Training Center (AzPHTC) is part of the Western Region Public Health Training Center (WRPHTC), a consortium of training centers that is funded by Health and Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The consortium consists of Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii and US Affiliated Pacific Islands. Our mission is to assess, develop and deliver responsive competency-based training to current and future public health professionals, community leaders and community partners in Arizona through community engagement, education and training activities that strengthen the public health infrastructure. We fulfill this mission by specifically collaborating with the public health workforce that provides services in rural/frontier areas, to members of Native American Tribes, to communities along the US-Mexico border, and to underserved populations in Arizona’s major metropolitan areas. California

California Public Health Training Center
The California Public Health Training Center (PHTC) is located in the California Statewide AHEC Program and is part of the Western Region Public Health Training Center, a HRSA funded program located at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. The California PHTC is targeting public health professionals in the most rural areas of the state, northwest and northeast, central coast, Inland Empire, southeast and the Central Valley of the state. Each participating AHEC center is experienced in delivering continuing education to practicing public health professionals working in community clinic and health centers, hospitals and public health departments. We plan to bring public health education to the rural areas via distance learning modalities-both synchronous and asynchronous and in limited area in-person trainings. Hawai'i

Hawai'i Public Health Training Hui
The Hawai‘i Public Health Training Hui is a group of collaborating public health professionals in the State of Hawaii. The Hui (means group or collaboration in the Hawaiian language) was established in 2006 to provide statewide workforce training, coordination, and collaboration to meet identified common public-health workforce continuing education, training, and technical-assistance needs. In 2008, it established itself with a set of bylaws and cooperating relationships to help each other in a collectively approach. The Hui’s mission is to work collaboratively to empower Hawai‘i’s public health workforce with improved leadership, management, and decision-making skills, and stimulate creativity and innovation among local public-health personnel and community members who can improve the quality of the delivery of public-health services. Nevada

The Nevada Public Health Training Center's (NVPHTC) mission is to improve the competencies of aspiring and current public health professionals by researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs which target prioritized educational and skill-based needs in the public health workforce. The NVPHTC is housed in the UNR School of Community Health Sciences and works collaboratively with the University of Nevada School of Medicine's Office of Statewide Initiatives. NVPHTC will engage with traditional and non-traditional public health partners throughout the state in order to conduct both online and offline trainings in the key target areas of eliminating health disparities, promoting nutrition and physical activity, and the effective use of behavioral health interventions. Pacific Islands

Pacific Islands Public Health Training Center
“A well trained Pacific Island public health workforce is a key element to a well-prepared and resilient Pacific Island community.” Background Since 2007, the Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA) has been formally committed to working with USAPI institutions of higher learning to develop formal learning programs for the region’s PH workforce many of whom have no formal training in Public Health (PH).
